Starting out in pottery can feel a bit daunting, but with the right direction and some practice, you'll be creating beautiful pieces in no time. Here are some tips to help kick-start your pottery journey:

    1. Choose the right clay: Different types of clay have unique properties and are suitable for specific types of pottery. Research the various options available and select one that fits your project best.
    2. Invest in quality tools: High-quality tools make the pottery-making experience more enjoyable. Look into purchasing a pottery wheel, clay tools, and a kiln.
    3. Practice make perfect: Like most skill, pottery takes time to build muscle memory, people can sometime make it easy but with it will take time to master. Don't get discouraged if your pieces don't turn out how you had hoped, keep trying, and you'll learn more from your mistakes than your successes.
    4. Learn about glazing: Glaze gives pottery its finish and can make it amore durable protecting it from the elements or allowing it to hold water. Experiment with various glazes and techniques to create the unique look you want for your pottery.
    5. Take a class: Its the best way to learn pottery. By taking a class from a skilled instructor you will learn tricks and tips to help you become more skilled. Look for classes at your local community center or art school, or online. Don't forget there are also a ton of resources on YouTube that might help you learn the basics. 
    6. Use a pottery wheel: Throwing clay on a pottery wheel can be intimidating at first, but it's a great tool to create evenly shaped and symmetrical vessels. Practice using a pottery wheel to improve your skills. When you are just starting out a basic pottery wheel like some of these might be worth looking at and they are relatively inexpensive
    7. Get inspired by other potters: Look at the work of other ceramic artists for inspiration and ideas. Follow pottery blogs, uses pottery tags in social media, attend pottery shows and exhibitions, and join online pottery communities to connect with other like minded people.
